Suzhou is a city near Shanghai, where I lived for almost 10 years before moving to the United States. Suzhou is beautiful and is often referred to as the “Venice of the East.” The city is characterized by its ancient bridges, rivers, and traditional family life, all of which contribute to its charm. Suzhou has a subtropical climate, with short and mild winters. As a traditional agricultural area, the arrival of spring after the Chinese Lunar New Year is particularly significant. The fresh, lily-scented air and budding green leaves mark the beginning of a new year.
