When the Russian invasion of Ukraine began, it caused a massive displacement of civilians, including women and children, who had to flee their homes in search of safety and refuge. The impact of war can be devastating, turning the place they once called home into a place of fear and uncertainty.
I came across a poignant photo on the internet, capturing a young woman on her journey to the border, accompanied by her two beloved cats and carrying only two bags. The expressions on the cats’ faces spoke volumes of confusion, sadness, and anxiety about an uncertain future. Despite the challenging circumstances, the young lady displayed a remarkable determination and strength. It seemed as if she was saying, “I am not afraid, and I will return home eventually, but right now, my priority is to ensure the well-being of my beloved cats.”
I painted this picture with watercolor. This moment serves as a poignant reminder to all of us that we are not mere bystanders but active participants in shaping a more compassionate and understanding world.
All purchases of the Ukrainian-themed paints on the site will be donated to charity.
