Water Surface Reflection is a companion painting to “Fall Afternoon in Ashland State Park“. We took the photos at the same time. The reflection of the tree, leaves, blue sky, and ripples, are natural abstract art, no less and no more.
The ripples are reminiscent of Van Gogh; I used some Japanese gold leaf to highlight the bright yellow color. I think it worked great. Combining gold leaf to an oil painting can be cool, but it also could destroy the painting. I am still trying to achieve a pleasing balance.
